A step-by-step guide to Prompt Engineering for ChatGPT

Abstract
Prompt engineering has become a vital skill for improving interactions
with large language models, including ChatGPT. This article outlines a
structured framework for prompt engineering that spans definitions and types of
prompts, common mistakes to avoid, tips on producing good prompts, a nd
advanced ways to use prompts. The article includes examples and cases that
illustrate how refamiliarizing the wording of a prompt could lead to changes in
the accuracy, creativity, and practical application of AI-generated outcome.
Specific emphasis is given to role prompt design, open- versus closed-ended
prompts, and to writing prompt generators that facilitate systematic
experimentation with prompts. The article concludes that prompt engineering is
not merely a tool for technical provision, but a developing discipline that
supports productivity, learning, and problem solving across domains, including
education, research, and communication.
