Abstract
The banking industry plays an important role in the economic and financial development of a country by mobilising savings, providing credit, facilitating payments, and offering a wide range of financial products and services to individuals and businesses. Banks provide various products such as savings accounts, current accounts, fixed deposits, loans, debit cards, credit cards, digital banking services, and other financial facilities to meet the diverse financial needs of customers. Among these products, credit cards have emerged as an important financial instrument in modern banking, providing consumers with convenience, purchasing flexibility, cashless payment facilities, rewards, and access to short-term credit. The increasing availability and use of credit cards have significantly influenced consumers' purchasing and spending behaviour. Credit cards enable users to make purchases without making immediate payments from their bank accounts, with the amount being repaid at a later date according to the terms and conditions of the card issuer. They can be used for various purposes, including online shopping, groceries, utility payments, travel, education, medical expenses, emergency requirements, and high-value purchases through instalment or EMI facilities. While credit cards provide convenience and financial flexibility, excessive or unplanned usage may result in increased expenditure, outstanding balances, interest charges, and difficulties in repayment. Therefore, responsible credit card usage and effective management of credit obligations are important for maintaining financial stability.
