Mental health in relation to social intelligence among secondary school students

Abstract
Mental health, social intelligence, are shaping the
academic and personal lives of secondary school students. This study
investigates the interrelationships among 200 secondary school students (100
boys, 100 girls) from Class IX and X in Amritsar district, using random
sampling. The Mental Health Scale by Arun Kumar Singh and Arpana Sen Gupta
(2008), the Social Intelligence Scale by S. Mathur (2007), and the Educational
Anxiety Scale by Sood & Anand (2012) were administered. Descriptive
statistics (mean, median, standard deviation) and inferential statistics
(t-test, Pearson's product moment correlation) were applied. Results reveal
significant gender differences with boys scoring higher on mental health, social
intelligence, compared to girls. Significant correlations were found among all
three variables in both gender groups. Findings emphasize the need for
school-based social-emotional learning programs and mental health support
systems.
