Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly disrupted public healthcare
systems worldwide, with rural areas facing particular challenges in accessing
essential maternal healthcare services. This study explores the impact of the
COVID-19 pandemic on maternal healthcare utilization in rural communities,
focusing on the effects of delayed government financial support for maternal
health schemes and its subsequent effects on women’s nutritional and mental
health. The research further investigates the role of community health workers
and frontline health service providers in facilitating maternal healthcare
access during the pandemic, as well as the longterm implications for trust in
public healthcare systems. The results aim to inform policy recommendations to
improve maternal healthcare delivery in rural areas, particularly in future
public health crises.
