Abstract
Climate diagnostics, a crucial component in understanding and
mitigating climate change, involves monitoring, analyzing, and predicting
climatic patterns and their impacts. While modern climate diagnostic technology
leverages advanced computational tools and satellite imagery, ancient Tamil
literature from the Sangam era provides valuable insights into early methods of
climate observation and interpretation. This Article explores mathematical
modeling of climate diagnostic technology by analyzing concepts from Sangam
texts such as Naṟṟiṇai, Kuṟuntokai, Aingurunūṟu, Patiṟṟuppattu,
Paripāṭal, and comparing them with contemporary methods. We will use the
assignment problem to model some of these traditional practices and discuss
their relevance in today's context.
