This paper aims to summarize the concept of digital library and to emphasize the user’s evaluation about the concept of digital library and technology used in digitization and formation of digital libraries. In the present age of science and technology, and with the advance of Information Communication technology (ICT), in the present era world has changed in to global village. It has progressed towards global information and digital networking era. The modern libraries are transforming their information services in different modes. Rapid advances in information technologies have revolutionized the role of libraries. As a result, libraries face new challenges, competitors, demands, and expectations. Digital Libraries are being created today for diverse communities and in different fields e.g. education, science, culture, development, health, governance and so on. Digital libraries have so many advantages over printed documents. For this skilled manpower and equipped infrastructure is needed. The aim of this paper is to discuss significance of digital libraries in the modern information era. It depicts basic concepts, new activities, purpose, need, different stages, requirements, advantages, various types of digital resources in digital environment.
