Abstract
Agroforestry is a relatively new name for a set of old land-use practices that has been prevalent for many centuries in different parts of the world under subsistence condition. In the context of agroforestry, gender is an important dimension to look at. Globally, nearly half of the human population is directly dependent on natural resources for its livelihood, and mostly indigenous and rural women depend directly on biodiversity to fulfil their daily subsistence needs. Untill1970, women’s were largely absent in farming, animal husbandry and forestry research. Furthermore, women’s advocates, gender professionals, and feminists contend that working towards gender equality and addressing gendered power relations and inequities are crucial parts of sustainable development. In this context in the present paper attempt has been made to review the related literatures to see how far the agroforestry management is helpful for rural women to generate sustainable livelihood sources from agroforestry.
