Abstract
Nigeria returned to democratic rule after long years of military incursion in governance. However, the nation remains politically troubled as the impact of democracy has yet to meet the expectations of the citizens at the inauguration of democracy in 1999. Basic tenents of democracy such as free and fair election, human rights, efficient judicial system, as well as rule of law remain anonymous to the nation. It is often said that the rule of law is the bedrock on which democracy thrives and no democracy can grow without strict observance of the rule of law. In view of the above, this paper examines the concept of the rule of law in Nigeria’s nascent democracy.
