Effect of Nordic walking in overweight individuals

Abstract
Background: Obesity - A disorder involving excessive body fat that increases the risk of health problems. Modern lifestyle, with its lack of everyday physical activity, predisposes a person to chronic diseases increasing the morbidity and mortality rate. Nordic walking proved to be a feasible form of physical activity that can be done by nearly everybody to improve health related quality of life. Materials and Methods: 30 participants were included in this study. Their BMI, Heart rate, Blood pressure and VO2max were assessed. Nordic walking training was given for 4weeks, 5 times a week each session of 50 minutes. After 4 weeks, the parameters were re-assessed. Result: There was significant reduction in BMI, HR, BP and increase in VO2maxafter 4 weeks. Conclusion: Study concluded that, Nordic walking, less popular form of activity in India, is one of the innovative styles of walking which helps in improving the physical activity and vitals.
