Navniet Sekera, Dr. Surya Prakash Tripathi

Empowerment of women is essentially the process of upliftment of economic, social and political status of women, the traditionally underprivileged ones, in the society. It involves the building up of a society wherein in women can breathe without the fear of oppression, exploitation, apprehension, discrimination and the general feeling of persecution which goes with being a woman in a traditionally male dominated structure. Women empowerment means equipping women to be economically independent, self-confident, and capable to face any difficult situation.
The paper looks at the response and success of Helplines introduced to stem violence against women in the background of the crime rates in the state of Uttar Pradesh. A number of mobile apps have surfaced like Police and Women's helplines. This is a cross-gender study of the awareness of Womens helplines and efforts to reduce maternal mortality and provide better healthcare to women in the state.
The paper is on the awareness and success of the women helpline 1090 which is established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh for the protection of women against violence and harassment faced by them in the society and at the workplace. This helpline has been introduced by the Government to control the criminal offences increasing against women and the UP Government is taking each and every measure to expand this service in the whole of the State. The objective is to provide a platform where every woman is able to register a complaint whenever they face any kind of harassment/problem whether at home/workplace and in all spheres of the society.
