Abstract
Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have
emerged as a transformative force in higher education, influencing student
learning patterns, instructional delivery, and institutional roles. Academic
libraries, traditionally centre’s of information access and support, are
adjusting to this shift by reconfiguring services, redefining librarian roles,
and integrating new digital competencies. This paper examines the impact of
MOOCs on library services by reviewing pre-2018 literature on the subject,
identifying key themes such as information literacy support, resource access,
copyright challenges, and strategic engagement. Findings suggest that MOOCs
compel libraries to innovate information services, enhance digital literacy
programs, and collaborate in open educational practices. The study concludes
with recommendations for libraries to align services with MOOCs and emerging
digital learning landscapes.
