Abstract
The concept of continuous process in producing oleochemicals from palm oil by using a batch reactor is discussed in this paper. It has been recognized that the batch stirred reactor is a primary mode used in the synthesis of oleochemicals. The design of a batch reactor is necessary for cracking of palm oil to produce oleochemicals. The proposed batch reactor is to crack 500Kg per day of palm oil aimed at producing Fatty acid ethyl ester (oleochemicals). This figure was chosen as the basis of the design. Also the energy and material balance of the batch process reactor plant was calculated. Finally the equipment design for the batch process reactor was carried out and the parameters obtained for its construction are: 4.76m3 volume, 1.32m diameter, and 10hp electric motor for agitation.
