Impact of Bank-Linkage programme for Economic Empowerment of Rural Women

Abstract
In India women havernalways retained a very highly regarded position in the society from many yearsrnaccording to past history. In the current socio-economic situation, thernconcepts of women empowerment and their security always are observed by all thernpolitical parties. Without women development, economic development will notrntake place. For economic empowerment of women, they must have technicalrnknowledge, skill- training and marketing to establishing enterprises forrneconomic stability. Despite making innumerable efforts to the womenrnempowerment, the present socio economic status of women in India is veryrndejected. In1992, NABARD launch Self-Help Group (SHG) and bank linkagernprogramme for economical empowerment of women in India. The objective ofrnSHG-Bank linkage program was visualize with the objectives of developingrnsupplementary credit delivery services for the unreached poor people, buildingrnmutual trust and confidence between the bankers and the poor people. In thisrnpaper we analyze, how empowerment of women through Micro credit bank linkagernprogramme is achieved and also study the role and performance of SHGs inrnpromoting women empowerment in Karjat Taluka, Raigad District, and Maharashtra.
