Historical narrative of Free and Compulsory Primary Education in Indian Context

Abstract: Education is an instrument for human development. Study of earlier efforts made for providing free and compulsory education is essential to formulate an appropriate perspective for any further policy making It is of vital significance in any study in order to collect up-to-date information about what has been thought and done in that particular area. Therefore, the present study is taken up to bridge this gap. In this paper, an attempt has been made to review and synthesize the historical developments of Free and Compulsory Primary Education in Indian Context based on secondary data.
