This paper is a presentation of interdicts used for the sustainable management of forests and waters by the Mbala people of Pay Kongila (Kwilu province) in Democratic Republic of the Congo). The collection of data was carried out through the field investigations using a pre-established questionnaire answered to by paramount chiefs, the elderly and the notability of Pay Kongila as well as focus groups in view to gather opinions during discussion sessions. To complement this, documents relating to the topic were considered. From the inventory of over about forty interdicts, six with a French translation, the management principle as well as the outcome of the use or the efficiency were developed to demonstrate the role played by interdicts in the sustainable management of forests and waters by the Mbala people of Pay Kongila. The socioeconomic crisis led to the abandonment of these so efficient taboos in the sustainable management of forests and waters.
